A Japanese construction company unveiled a project to build a big underwater city. Life in this city will be possible in the next 12 years.
Ocean Spiral is the concept of sustainable and environmental living envisioned by Shimizu Corporation, which seeks to "take advantage of all the possibilities at the bottom of the sea".
Structure and shape of the city is relatively ambitious, construction will consist of three main sections. The first one with an area of 500 meters floats above the surface in part. And a central tower with a commercial area, housing and hotel rooms for about 5,000 people
Corridor (spiral) connects the upper field to the earth station, (3000 - 4000) meters under-earth.
Where he will be present the factory, which will produce methane from carbon dioxide using micro and microorganisms.
The vortex also contains generators that use different water temperatures to produce energy (a process known as "Ocean thermal energyconversion" ), as well as ship storage tanks and deepwater research.
Shimizu wish to complete construction in 2030.
These cities are less vulnerable to damage caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes. The company believes that the remote islands threatened by sea-level rise due by global warming can benefit from this type of structure.
